Thelma Lucille Hammett
Thelma Lucille Hammett, age 92 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Butler Center in Butler. She was born December 3, 1926 to Carl David and Beulah Adelia Payne Culbertson in Amoret, Missouri.
Thelma grew up in Amoret where she attended school. On May 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to Raymond Hammett and to this union three children were born. Thelma was a Physical Therapy Assistant--and worked in this field for over 40 years. She belonged to the Amoret Christian Church.
Thelma was courageous, determined, hard working, patient and loving. She had a generous spirit and gave up things for herself in order to provide for her family. Thelma enjoyed quilting, shopping, flower gardening, family picnics, going on walks, watching the events of her grandchildren and baking--her pies and chicken noodles were the best. Thelma’s greatest love was that of her family. She thought her children were angels.
Thelma is survived by a son, Raymond Hammett and wife Marilyn of Foster, Missouri; two daughters, Julie Noel and husband Jerry and Judith Stuart and husband Scott all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; a half sister, Beulah Johnson of Osawatomie, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and four greatgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Goldie Culbertson; husband, Raymond M. Hammett; three brothers, Harry, Leland and Wayne Culbertson; and two half brothers, Lucian and Wilbur.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Alan Black officiating. Burial in East Mt. Zion Cemetery, LaCygne, Kansas. Contributions to Amoret Christian Church. Online condolences www.schowengerdtchapel.com.
