Joan Powell, 71 of Adrian, Missouri passed away Monday, May 4, 2020 in rural Bates County. Graveside services were held 2:00 pm Saturday, May 9, 2020 in White Oak Cemetery near Urich, Missouri with Pastor Chris Sams officiating. Pallbearers were Kevin Ryles, Keith Wood, Danny Copeland, Micheal Kesterson, Tony Wood and Daniel Dody. There will be no public visitation. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for an educational fund for her granddaughter Chloe or to a trust fund for Chloe Jones at the United Methodist Church 202 E Main, Adrian Mo. 64720. Joan was born February 5, 1949, in Clinton Missouri to Ellsworth and Ruth Ryan Copeland. She was primarily a life long resident of the Bates county area. She grew up on a farm in rural Bates county near the Henry county border and attended Ballard School. Joan spent many years as an over the road semi truck driver and operated other trucking businesses throughout the years. She also operated a florist and greenhouse for several years in Appleton City, Mo.. Joan contributed to many other events with her unique talents of custom sewing and interior decorating during her life time. She had a huge heart for children and small animals and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Ellsworth and Ruth Copeland, an infant sibling Ronald Copeland and young niece Debbie Copeland. She is survived by a daughter Christina Wood and husband Keith, Maryville MO. and a son Kevin Ryles, Kansas City, MO., an adopted granddaughter, Chloe Jones, who resided with her in Adrian, MO, along with a brother Richard Co peland of Topeka, KS, sister Lois Copeland of Oak Grove, MO., step-grandchildren, Tony and Stacy Wood, with their daughters Kensely and Gracelyn of Maryville MO. Lindsay Wood, Baltimore Maryland, Daniel and Whitney Dody and their two sons Corban and Abram of Clinton, MO. She also leaves behind nephews Danny Copeland of Garden City, MO., Micheal Kesterson and (Tara) of Blue Springs MO., and two nieces Dawn Copeland Lamb of Louisburg, KS and Melissa Kesterson of Oak Grove MO. along with several other great nieces and nephews.
