Jessie Edith Schapeler, age 85 of Appleton City, Missouri died Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Medicalodge in Butler. She was born October 29, 1934 to Edwin and Leota Banghart Fox in Milo, Missouri.

Edith attended Sandstone Grade School in Vernon County before her family moved in 1945 to the original Fox Farm in Bates County, Missouri, Pleasant Gap Township where Edith went to Rockville, Bever and Appleton City Schools. On October 19, 1951 she was united in marriage to Vernon Lee Schapeler in Butler, Missouri and to this union four children were born. They lived at Vernon’s home place almost 60 years--even after his death.

Edith was saved at a young age. She attended the Universal Church of God most of her life. She loved going to church and teaching the children’s class. Edith played the piano for several years for church and Sunday School. She loved spending time with her family. Edith enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing and making quilts.

Edith is survived by three sons, Donald Schapeler and wife Kelli of Rockville, Missouri, Philip Schapeler and wife Judy of Butler, Missouri and David Schapeler and wife Belinda of Appleton City, Missouri; one daughter, Linda Howard and husband Lyle of Butler, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Michael Snethen and wife Grace of Butler, Missouri, Mark and Monte Schapeler of Butler, Missouri, Matthew Schapeler of Lathrop, Missouri, Amelia Murphy and husband Keith of Nevada, Missouri, Katrina Rich and husband Jeremy of Rich Hill, Missouri, Rachel Dickerson and husband Tanner of Newton, Kansas, Robin Swanson and husband Micah of Nevada, Missouri and Hayden Schapeler of Appleton City, Missouri one stepgrandchild, six greatgrandchildren, Kayla Snethen, and Logan Snethen of Butler, Missouri, Duff Murphy, Fox Murphy and Pace Murphy of Nevada, Missouri and Madilyn Swanson of Nevada, Missouri; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, James Scheilz of Butler, Missouri; and several nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon in 2011; two sisters, Alice Scheilz and Betty Alice Fox; a brother, Denzil Fox; and two sisters-inlaw and two brothers-in law.
