Christopher Sage

Aug. 31, 1948 - Sept. 26, 2019

Christopher “Chris” Walker Sage, age 71 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home in Butler. He was born August 31, 1948 to Hugh Douglas and Veradean Worwood Sage in Kansas City, Missouri.

Chris moved around a lot in his youth due to his father being a boilermaker. He graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1966. On August 20, 1966 he was united in marriage to Roberta Billingsley and to this union a son, Kevin was born. Chris furthered his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1974. He began working with Dr. Bud Welborn at the Butler Animal Clinic after college. In 1989, Chris began his own veterinary practice, Sage’s Animal Clinic.

Chris enjoyed watching football, going to the casinos, going on cruises with friends and playing pitch and poker at the Pitch Parlor in Rich Hill. His other enjoyments included playing cards at the home of Terry and Ruth Wheatley every Saturday with the Saturday Night Card Crew--Roberta and Chris Sage, Terry and Ruth Wheatley, Bob and Pam Wingate, Marge Fritts and Claude Billingsley. Chris was always at his grandchildren’s sporting activities, spoiling them and later his great-granddaugthter, Gracie Mae. He was always encouraging and being supportive of his grandchildren in furthering their education. Chris was proud of his son, Kevin in his accomplishments in his career and family life in becoming a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. Chris was caring, ornery, unafraid to speak his mind and gave his friends trouble by kidding them. Chris would recognize the girls in the Card Club when Valentine’s Day came with some kind of gift. He always enjoyed himself at the Fly-In’s at Schell Knob, Missouri with Judy Reynolds. Chris also found pleasure in just working in some way on his parents farm. Whenever a friend, client or anyone would ask him a question about their animals or other, he would take his time in explaining to them what they needed to know. He generally had an answer or some statistics on any question given him.
