Beulah M. Hughes
Beulah May (Carpenter) Hughes, 94, of Independence, Missouri, formerly of Amsterdam, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12th in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a kidney or cancer foundation of your choice.
Beulah was born May 25, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Etta (Johnson) Carpenter. She spent her childhood years in the Garnett, Westphalia, and Baldwin City areas. Beulah was a graduate of Lecompton High School in Lecompton, KS. She was a member of the Amsterdam Methodist Church.
Beulah married Charles Hughes on August 10, 1945. To this union, three children were born. She is survived by a son, Danny Hughes (Dottie) of Oak Grove, MO; daughter, Marsha Huberty (Tom) of Bloomington, IN; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
Beulah was employed by the Amsterdam, MO, Post Office and Miami R-I Schools. She and her husband owned and operated Hughes (66) service station in Amsterdam from 1960 to 2000.
Beulah was preceded in death by husband, Charles; infant daughter, Carol Diane; three sisters; and a niece.
