Ava-Nell Wix, better known as Nell, died April 19, 2019 at the age of 88 at her home in Butler. One of 10 children, Nell was born June 1, 1930 in Newton County, Missouri to Ray and Lela (Lacy) Camerer.
She moved with her parents and siblings to Bates County Missouri in 1942. She graduated from the 8th grade at Orchard Grove rural school northwest of Pleasant Gap and graduated from High School in Butler, MO in 1948.
She was married to Clark Wix September 21, 1950 and to this union four children were born. Another son was added by adoption some years later. Nell liked children and gave care to her own as well as others in her care as they were foster parents for several years.
Nell taught children’s classes at church as long as physically able. She was a stayat-home mother taking care of her family. She liked flowers and grew many of them. She always had a large garden, which is where the children got their strong work ethic. She did much crocheting and quilt making. She especially enjoyed crocheting doilies. She made numerous afghans for her great-grandchildren. She assisted at the Church of Christ Training Center for several years after her children were grown. She also liked animals and raised rabbits, goats, chickens and Sheltie dogs. In her later years, she spent considerable time working on family genealogy.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clark Wix in 2010, sisters, Dorothy Waldrop, Marjorie Chandler, Virginia Gray and Betty Schrandt and a brother, Floyd Camerer.
She is survived by her children, Allen Wix of Butler, Missouri, Sharon Harold and husband John of Enid, Oklahoma, Mona McDaniel and husband Wesley of Butler, Missouri, Douglas Wix and wife Tena of Butler, Missouri and James Wix and wife Gina of Buffalo, Missouri; 13 Grandchildren: Venessa Barber (Paul); Lanell Cadwell (Ryan); Daniel Harold; Dustin Harold (Jessica); Delbert McDaniel (Courtney); Janice Martinez (Lewis); Jonathan McDaniel; Melody Pray (Tony); Jason Wix (Erin); Courtney Wix; Kaylee Rodriguez (Raul); Megan Wix and Emma Sneed; 22 greatgrandchildren, Joshua, Caleb and Shiloh Barber; Danika and Kadin Merrill; Emma, Lawson and Maddox Harold; Krissy, Dakota, Britney, Shelby and Colton McDaniel; Sierra and Iliana Martinez; Kelsey, Mikayla, Brianna and Haley Pray; Brayton, McKenna and Kyler Wix; two sisters, Jean Mize, of Parkville, Missouri and Karen Calkins of Overland Park, Kansas; two brothers, Donald Camerer (Rita) and Ronald Camerer (Deidre), both of Adrian, Missouri; brother-inlaw, Alvin Schrandt of Plainville, Kansas; and sister-in-law Beth Ann Camerer, Ada, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Schowengerdt Chapel.
